Truth about Modeling Agencies

I have talked to many models over the years and I have found that there is one misconcpection that I find even today that many models have " If an modeling agency wants me they will pay for everything " that may be true in a few cases however for the most part models are responsible for their comp cards and photographs, I will go as far as to say this being that I own an agency and I am a photographer, it should not be a requirement that a model us the agency's photographer to be signed by that agency. For the modeling agency that offer photography services it is another income stream but for the most part it is to make sure that the model has highly professional model photography the will get the models the kind of paid assignments that they are looking for. It is also good that if a model knows another photographers that is are professional model photographers outside of the agency that you ifrom the agency that you have a professonal photographer that will be handle your photography for you and if the photographs are good the agency should have no problem with using those photographs to get you started. But there will come a time when the models will work with the agency's photographer as well as make-up artist ect.

The other thing is this modeling agencies do not sell modeling classes come on people it is 2015, when I started in the business we did not have the internet , Google , Facebook or Youtube I did not understand with all the information that is out here not why would someone pay thousands of dollars on modeling classes and when it all said and done they do not find you work. A true modeling agency workds on commission 15% to 20% on the work that they find you, now for the most part agencies will have some form of a contract or agreement that they work with exclusive or open. Exclusive meaning that you as a model / talent can only work with that agency for the life of the agreement or contract. Open meaning that you are signed by an agency but have the option to work with other agencies as well.
